for wishing for RSV.
While it is still better than whooping cough...it did get bad enough to require an overnight in the hospital.
Jake talked me into just making another pediatrician appointment rather than going straight to the ER, and to let them decide if he needs to be in the hospital. Since Logan's food intake was going down (it's hard to suck if you can't breathe out of your nose right?), and he was having "retractions" in his ribcage, they decided they would rather play it safe and admit him.
When the doctor told me his decision, a part of me was relieved that I wasn't crazy for bringing him in 2 days in a row. And then the emotional side of me lost it when I realized 'my baby is going into the hospital.' I was so scared. After I calmed down, though, I realized they would be able to make him more comfortable, and monitor him better than I ever could at home.
So we spent about 18 hours of: having them monitor his oxygen intake and heartrate; getting breathing treatments every 4 hours; having saline put up his nostrils and then the mucous sucked out (his least favorite part of our stay); lots of tylenol for his inevitably sore throat and conveniently-timed teething; and one after another attempts at getting just a few ounces of milk in him at a time.
I am so glad I brought him in, because after 18 hours of feeling like the meanest mom ever for putting him through all of that, he woke up a completely different baby. He woke up Logan :) He was smiling, almost laughing (which is as close as we've come), and flirting with the nurses like crazy. They said we could bring him home and we were ready to take him. We have spent the rest of the day and evening snuggling, continuing his breathing treatments/suctioning (which he still hates...weird, I know), and snuggling some more. He finally fell asleep and we're off to attempt a good night of that ourselves.
Thank you to everyone for your good thoughts, kind words of encouragement, and much appreciated prayers. He is one tough little guy, and we're so grateful he has so many people who care about him so much!
